Sue's story

“I told my sister after I’d had a bad week and she came to see if I was okay. Telling people you've been on the toilet 10 to 15 times a day is exhausting – they often don't really understand how tired you feel.

My sister has been my rock since I lost my husband. She took me in one night when my bowel was blocked… she'd never seen me like that before. I think it frightened her. She'd never seen me in so much pain.

Since I told my sister, we’ve become much closer and she keeps an eye on me.

She now understands what the symptoms are, and she's there when I need her.

She understands now.

If we don't talk about it, people won't understand.”
